8/21 - Corvallis

Left Eugene and headed to Corvallis. It was a short drive and we had tons of time to kill. Parked and checked out the venue we were going to play later (Cloud 9) also checked out a farmer's market. Walked to a Hawaiian restaurant to get some food. It was OK. Found a Starbucks for wi-fi. Coffee is only .50 cents if you bring your own cup!

Still had time to kill. Got some Iodine for my finger because the color and pain level really started to scare me. Hannah and I split to go see Toy Story 3 while Jeff roamed along the waterfront with his bag of Granola. I was surprised at how sad that movie was!

Again, the stress of being away from home was affecting morale, and it took some convincing to get all band members on board with playing the show (instead of driving straight home). It's a good thing we did. The other bands were good, the band Tirade was AMAZING. We played a good set once again and got great feedback once again! Sold some stuff. Nice people all around. Some really dedicated underage kids sat outside in the cold to watch the show from the window! That was awesome, those kids are awesome.

Headed home. Soooooo tired.

Broke even.

8/20 - Eugene

Drove to Eugene. Left my toothbrush in Medford. Had time to kill so we got pizza at the Pizza Research Institute. Yummm. For some of the stress of being away from home and loved ones was starting to take it's toll. Let's leave it at that.

The weather was beautiful. I needed new shoes. Found some AWESOME super hi top converse knock offs that were black with red laces used (but barely) for NINE BUCKS. They fit like a glove. Or, uh, shoe.

Anyway. Had time to kill before our show at Black Forrest, and across the street was a tattoo parlor. Sooo.... we went in and Hannah got a tattoo. (Tear drop on crook of finger.)

Then we played a good set. My finger still hurts every night, FYI. Like a LOT. It looks kinda bluish under the nail now. Got good reactions (to the set, not the finger). We could have sold more shirts but we are down to the bottom of the barrel and didn't have the right sizes/colors. The venue was cool.

Eugene Pyrate Punx hooked us up with spaghetti dinner and a place to stay for the night. It was a vegan punk house that was partying HARD when we arrived. To get some space Hannah and I walked to the 7-11 to get peanut butter cups. When we got back everyone was asleep, so we did the same.

SF

^Tuesday 8/17

Woke up to the sun and beautiful surroundings needing coffee and a shower really bad. FYI my finger is still FUCKED UP and hurts. By now I have decided it is either dislocated or broken and I want to set up a doctor appointment for when I get home. That's the one think I am looking forward to when I get home. Oh, and Portland drinking water. This LA shit makes me gag no matter how hard I try to drink it.

I took the driving shift to San Francisco. Ugh toll bridges. Ugh parking meters! Went into "Out of the Closet: the most fabulous vintage shop in the world" to look for new shoes (mine are effed…. Need to be thrown away). No luck. San Francisco looks fun, I'd like to bring my bike down there sometime and check it out more. The venue was cool. We played our show and got a lot of positive feedback, sold some merch. Made some contacts. Drove to Leigh's place in Oakland to crash.

8/15
Again Cullen made us breakfast. Hashbrowns and eggs. And coffee. We woke up super late again. Eventually made our way down to Santa Monica to check out the beach and pier. The ocean was warm but smelly! Went back to Cullen's, then down to the Long Beach area to play a show at Ricky Genes. Totally weird bar, but met a touring band from Seattle there and they were super cool. Exchanged info with them. Jeff was DD, but the bar wasn't hooking up the drinks until later when the bartender gal decided to make Hannah and I a few specialty drinks. (Her call: tootsie roll shot and then a gummy bear shot). We played a really good set, sold some stuff, and got TONS of compliments on our sound. No money from the bar, merch only. Stayed at Cullen's.

Petaluma

^Sound check at the Phoenix Theater

8/12
Packed up and went to Jeff's mom's for a last chance at internet and brunch. Drove to the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma (where bands like AFI, Blink 182, Primus, and a lot of other bands got their start). The place looks drenched in history. Every inch is covered in bright spraypaint art. Punk fucking rock. There's a couple skate ramps in the main audience area, a balcony, and big stage. The sound was great and crystal clear. My finger hurt so bad I wasn't sure If I could play, but the combination of meds and nerves got me through it. Sold a LOT of merch, signed autographs, got a lot of positive feedback from strangers. That means a lot to us! We were invited to come back to Petaluma and play the Phoenix again, and I am pretty sure we will. Thanks Petaluma! We were thrilled to be part of your history.

Drove to my cousin Rachel's house to crash. Got Taco Bell on the way because we hadn't eaten in 12 hours. Did not get enough sleep.

Not nearly famous enough for anything to go right

Well here we are, less than 4 weeks to go.

I've probably sent out 200 emails to bands, venues, radio stations, promoters, etc.

Maybe ten out of 50 respond, and only one out of those ten are able to confirm anything. People are so flaky and lazy! It is really annoying.

This is what our tour schedule looks like so far:

OREGON
August 17 - Astoria @ TBA

WASHINGTON
August 18 - Olympia @ Le Voyeur
August 19 - Seattle @ The Morgue
August 20 - Bellingham Area @ TBA (Email to book us this night)
August 21 - Bellingham @ TBA (Email to book us this night)
August 24 - Olympia @ Charlie's Bar and Grill

BC, CANADA
August 23 - Vancouver @ TBA

For the record, NOT ONE BAND IN OLYMPIA has bothered to reply to a message we sent. GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE YOU PRETENTIOUS LITTLE F**KS. And come to our shows when we're in town. K?THANX! Haha oh dear... (The venues on the other hand have been AWESOME and helpful. Best venue communication thus far.)

What We Know

There are quite a lot of things we do not know, going into this tour. We have never been on tour before, and have only played outside of our city, Portland, once. So I will start off with the things we DO know, as that list is much smaller and manageable.

Our tour will be a joint tour with the fantastic band The Hand That Bleeds (whom you will hear much about in the coming weeks) with the goal of promoting our split 12" vinyl (and soon to be released CD version) we are releasing together.

We kick off our tour August 2, 2008 in Portland, Oregon. The venue is called Backspace. All ages. Five bucks. We haven't finialized the line up of the bands who are going to play with us. Possibly there will be an all-out all-night after party after the show. But we do not KNOW that yet.

Then On August 6, we will hit the road. Our path will be as follows:

We also know and are aware of this. Five years ago, another band from Portland was on tour, coming home, and wrecked their van, killing everyone but one person. On the Five year anniversary, yet another Portland band got into a car wreck and everyone was rushed to the hospital with broken bones and injuries. This scares us just a little, especially since I just finished watching Final Destination (both 1 and 2.) Despite this, I can speak for everyone, we are all extremely excited to get out on the road, and with luck we will make it back home with our bodies and guitars in one piece.

Stay tuned and stay sick,
-Emily Galash
