MSM Makes Top 10 List for Upcoming PDX Bands!

Check out this article in SSG Music that features Monster-Sized Monsters alongside 9 other terrific upcoming Portland bands! Here's a preview of the article:
"Proving once again that rock and roll is not a boys-only club, Monster-Sized Monsters fuse the early-nineties, Riot Grrrl punk rock aggression with a bit of the modernized, danceability that has been borrowed from the post-punks by such bands as the Kills and le Butcherettes. If MSM keeps their nose to the grind and finds the right audience, I could really see them going places."    -Nick Hilden, SSG Music
In other news, we are pleased to announce we have added the talented Chad Sixkiller (yes that is his real last name) to our lineup as our new drummer! He's picking up the slack pretty quick and is changing our kit up a little to create a full, dynamic, multi-genre sound. MSM is back and louder than ever. Our debut show with the new line up will be February 11 @ the Tree House in Portland. More details to come.

Over and out or whatever.

Blog Love, 1969 and Drummers, Man!

It's been a while since posting here! We have lots of news, but one thing at a time. I promise we will make this blog more current and give it a nice new layout with easy to navigate features soon!!

First off, the blog By The Light of the Stereo gave us a mention! Read it HERE!

Also, for the past month, we have been writing and collaborating with David Edwards (Director of the film Nightscape) a song that has a very vintage feel to it. I'm not sure how much I can say at this point so I'm going to leave it at that. We have been working with John Askew at Scenic Burrows Studio (he does sound design for TV and Film) who has worked with artists such as Brent Knopf, Corin Tucker, and Carrie Brownstien (who happen to be 3 of our favorite NW artists).

Lastly, among the good news, we have some bad... er, I mean... we have an "opportunity." Our dearly beloved drummer Jeff Manter has told us he is parting ways with the band. We have yet to sit down and talk about why exactly, but regardless, we are now on the hunt for a new drummer! If you are a drummer in PDX and would like to audition for us, please shoot us a message at THIS EMAIL.

We are hoping we find someone who not only is fun to be around, has the skills and creativity, but is enthusiastic and looking for a band to completely become a part of. Not a side project, not a place holder, but a focal point of their life. That's how WE view the band, (uh, Hannah and I have MSM tattoos, remember?) and that's how we want our drummer to feel. If you're one of us, you're family.

HAVE A FANTASTIC MONDAY!

The Cold Months

^Hannah Armstrong and our touring drummer Jeff Manter checking levels at a house party on the Oregon Coast.

Being stuck in Portland (because of jobs, school, and life) really puts a damper on being punk rock. We can only play this city so often because we do not want to dilute our draw. But we have had a couple great shows back here in Portland since our last tour. But I miss being on the road and playing every night.

Lately we have been booking a string of out of town shows we can do in a weekend. We just played a house party in Manzanita, Oregon (on the Oregon Coast). [See photo above]

We have a Corvallis, OR show in the works for March 26, and are working on a February 19 show near Bend, OR, pending on a gas money guarantee :) I'd like to get something set up in Seattle again as well.

We are currently setting up a recording date to record a single. It is my favorite song we have ever written and I can't wait to have recorded!

Talk soon-
Emily
